When a person huffs glue they are inhaling extremely potent chemicals. The abuser may sniff directly from the bottle of glue, or may cover their mouth with a bag filled with the product to experience hallucinations, euphoria and disorientation. In a recent study, 15% of eighth-graders admitted to huffing glue.

Short Term Huffing Glue Dangers

The short-term effects of huffing include nausea, headaches, throat and nasal irritation, hearing and vision problems, vomiting and loss of muscle control. The user may also begin to hallucinate or even pass out. When the high begins to die down, the abuser may become depressed or experience fatigue. Unfortunately, many teens do not realize that one of the huffing glue dangers is death; and this could happen even the first time huffing.

Long Term Huffing Glue Dangers

The long-term huffing glue dangers can be serious. Huffing glue can kill brain cells. The abuser can experience permanent changes in their behavior, speech and motor skills. Also, the lungs can be affected. Coughing and wheezing can occur with huffing; and the person could even begin to cough up blood. Over long periods of time, the user will need to huff more to get the same results; and the amount of chemicals inhaled can be deadly.
